This week I signed up for a free trial of Gwynnie Bee, a “monthly subscription service for sizes 10-32.” With the service you get “unlimited access to a closet the size of a department store with unlimited free shipping.” Here’s why I decided to sign up for Gwynnie Bee:
As I’ve been decluttering my closet, I’ve realized that I have a lot of clothes that are just wrong for me.
I’ve considered going to Nordstrom and seeing a personal shopper, but the clothes at Nordstrom are so expensive, and now the nearest Nordstrom is about 90 minutes away. I’m not opposed to purchasing expensive clothes if they’re high quality pieces that I will wear for years. But, it’s really hard to tell which items will be really useful when trying them on in the store.
When factoring in the cost of babysitting, and the hassle it would take to get myself to and from the store, it’s just not worth it.
I’ve considered signing up for StitchFix, because they send you clothes based on your size and preferences. I never did it, because I was really unsure if I would like what the stylists picked out for me to try on. And, if I didn’t like anything, I’d be out a fee for using the service.
Wearing the same clothes and occasionally buying stuff at Target seemed a lot less risky.
I’ve finally found a way to try on different clothes for free. On my Facebook feed, I saw an ad for Gwynnie Bee, a service that allows you to “rent” as many clothes as you want for a monthly fee. The catch is, it’s only for sizes 10-32. However, the service is pretty new, so they’re offering a 30-day free trial for new customers.
That means, I can try on these clothes for free! I signed up for the 3-garments-at-a-time trial so I can try on as many different things in a month as possible. I just need to remember to cancel or downgrade my membership at the end of the monthly trial to save on costs. You can also buy the clothes at a discount if you like them.
However, I think Gwynnie Bee could be a good solution for my “I have no time to shop” issues. Check back later for more updates and reviews for Gwynnie Bee. I think it could also be a good way for me to keep random bad choices out of my closet.
