A big part of my motivation for taking on this project is my desire to get rid of my Dreaded Student Loan. I finished my graduate degrees (yes, that’s plural…) in 2001, and I’ve been paying the minimum on them ever since. That’s thirteen years of paying, and I’m so disappointed in myself for not paying the loan off before now.
The Dreaded Student Loan is always on my mind whenever anything financial comes up. I worry that we may not be able to do the things we’d like to do because of my Dreaded Student Loan.
While the Dreaded Student Loan did help me to get a pretty good education, and it did help me to earn more money, it’s still just there. And it needs to go.
Now more than ever, I know that it’s time for me to ramp things up and start paying down the principal on the loan. And what better way to do it than selling off the clutter in our home that is probably costing us money?
So, any money I make from selling my junk will be put toward the Dreaded Student Loan. I’m also doing a couple of other things like using EBates (referral link) and Swagbucks to help earn a little extra cash here and there. Eventually I’ll probably put ads on this site, and if I make any money from them, they will also go toward the Dreaded Student Loan.
Do you have a student loan? How long has yours been hanging around, and how do you feel about it?
