Even though I love to read about cleaning, make cleaning lists, and create simple cleaning routines, I don’t like to actually clean. It’s no fun, it’s hard work, and I end up cleaning the same things over and over again. Bleh.
I was considering having a cleaning service come to our house before we had some visitors, and I was checking out how much it would cost to have our house cleaned. The lowest prices I was finding were around $100! I ended up finding something cheaper on Groupon that I’m saving for when we need an emergency clean, but I started thinking about how awesome it would be if I could be paid $100 to clean my own house. Wishful thinking, but wouldn’t it be fantastic?
Then, I realized that I already had something on my phone that I could use to get paid a minuscule amount to clean. It’s an app called GymPact. I’ve been using it to keep myself accountable for doing my walks for exercise, but there’s no reason why I couldn’t also use it to motivate me to clean too.
To use the app, you have to pledge to do a certain amount of exercise during the week. I’ve always taken it slow and pledged one workout per week. I use the “Motion Tracker” option on the app to record my workout. It worked for my walks, and it also worked for my intense cleaning sessions too! Yay!!!!!!
If you do the workouts during the week, you’ll earn a small amount of money based on the amount of money available from the week. The amount of money available comes from people who did not do their workouts, and had to make a payout. So it varies. And, if you forget to log your workouts/cleaning sessions, you’ll lose money. Another way of looking at it: you’ll be fined for not cleaning your house, which makes me feel a little grouchy. So, I prefer to look at it as being paid to clean.
Using GymPact has helped to keep me motivated to exercise and clean. More because I don’t want to have to pay for being a slacker, but a little bit because it seems more fair that I be paid just a little bit to clean my house. Which, I know, is crazy. But it makes me happy.
Any other ideas for getting paid to clean your house?
