Laundry Room Cabinet Declutter with Before & After Photos

Are you holding on to all kinds of random stuff in your laundry room? I was! Here you can see how I got rid of a lot of junk I've been holding onto … just in case. The whole process only took 20 minutes.
Getting Rid of Laundry Room Junk

The day had come for a laundry room cabinet declutter. The cabinets weren’t completely bad, but considering how much time I spend in the laundry room, they were driving me crazy.

Our laundry room has these nifty little cabinets. There’s one above our washer and one above our dryer, and they were all filled with junk. We had old Amway cleaning supplies from the ’80s, toys that proved to be too dangerous and small for our little ones, crumpled old cleaning rags, and an amazing number of almost empty bottles of cleaning supplies.

It was getting to the point where I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I was overbuying stuff. I also wanted to change where I stored our laundry detergent so it would be easier to grab and use.

It could definitely have been worse, but I was having trouble finding things because I had bottles and cleaners in front of each other. I had to shuffle things around to find what I was looking for.

Our laundry room is very close to where our boys take their naps, so I wanted to be able to get into the cabinets without making a ton of noise and waking up the kids. I also needed to get rid of duplicate cleaning supply bottles by consolidating bottles. I even put a few of our cleaning supplies in our garage sale box, because we don’t like the way they smell.

Of course, I found a ton of random stuff that just needed to be thrown away.

Here’s a picture of the cabinets after the declutter:

The whole project took a very focused 20 minutes to complete. Now that I’ve moved the detergent, I am finding myself having to get into the habit of opening a different cabinet to find it. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with the results. I LOVE that I have more empty shelf space.
Oh, and that iron in the top-left corner? Hasn’t been used since at least 2001. It’s a definite candidate for decluttering, but it seems wrong not to have an iron, right?
How do you organize your cleaning supplies?
