|Little Ones Helping Out!|
I’ve been trying to be very disciplined about doing at least one load of laundry each day, but with little ones in the house, getting everything washed, dried, and put away is a true challenge. Last week I was folding laundry in the laundry area (I fold stuff right out of the dryer, because if I put it in a basket, it never gets folded!), and one of my sons came in with a toy dump truck.
A lightbulb went off. Maybe I could get him to take his clothes back to his room by himself? I asked him if he could make a sock delivery to his sock basket in his room. Excited to be playing with mommy, he said yes, and took a load of socks to his room. Soon he was back, ready to pick up another load for a delivery.
I kept loading up his truck with a few clothes at a time as I was folding, and he put them away. Soon his brother saw what was happening, and he wanted in on the “fun” too.
My three-year-olds were putting their clean clothes away by themselves!
Did they put things away perfectly? No, but it was all put away. It also helped to reinforce where they keep their clothes so they’re able to find things on their own.
The boys have helped me put away their clothes before, but they were never really that excited about it. It was usually just easier for me to put their clothes away quickly while they were occupied with an activity.
I’m not sure how long the excitement over laundry delivery will last, but I had to share this tip with other parents. Hopefully it will help you out too!
