Ever have one of those days when you just feel blah, lonely, and like you keep doing the same stuff over and over again? You are not alone, and the feelings are normal. It’s easy to get caught up in caring for your family and your home and forget to do things for yourself.
Taking care of yourself is a challenge to prioritize, but it does make everything else you do so much easier. Here’s a list of ideas for things to do for yourself. Some ideas are very simple, and others are more complicated (and fun!). Pick and choose what works for you, and I hope it helps you feel a little more energized.
1. Drink water – Sometimes hydration is all it takes to get rid of the blahs. Make sure you’re drinking enough throughout the day.
2. Get up early. I do this for alone time, because I am someone who needs alone time (see #20).
3. Get up early enough to do 30 minutes of exercise. How awesome will you feel if you exercise before everyone else in your house wakes up?
4. Set aside time for daily grooming. Please don’t laugh, but this is a challenge for me. I have to ask someone to watch my kiddos for a while so I can bathe sometimes. That’s just the way it is. But, of course, I feel so much better after taking care of the basic hygiene needs.
5. Eat an apple and an orange each day. A great source of fiber, vitamin C, and energy.
6. Take a high-quality multivitamin. No cheapies! Get something really awesome. I like Rainbow Light Women’s Organic Multivitamin.
7. Make time to laugh each day – call a friend, watch YouTube videos, or visit a “Funny” page on Pinterest.
8. When someone compliments you, say thank you. Then write down the compliment so you remember it.
9. Give at least three genuine compliments each day.
10. Find a way to give back to your community. If you can’t think of anything right away, you can always donate stuff to Goodwill.
11. Create a playlist you love. Music is a powerful motivator. Even when you’re sweeping up crumbs for the hundredth time today.
12. Find a great fiction book to read before bed each night. The best! Ask your friends for recommendations.
13. Limit online time. Being in front of a screen all of the time is a serious downer. Even if you’re sort of having fun, it’s a true energy drain.
14. Find a great lipstick and wear it. Even if you’re just wearing it around the house.
15. Start a serious moisturizing routine. Get your skin back in shape. Even the skin on your elbows and knees.
16. Clean our your closet. Declutter like a mad woman, and rejoice at the newfound space.
17. Make a list of clothing items you need.
18. Go shopping for the clothing items you need.
19. Get a great haircut.
20. Learn more about your personality. Take a free personality test online.
21. Celebrate your accomplishments. Really. Do it. Right now, I’m celebrating writing this blog post with a nice cool beverage.
What are your energizing ideas? Please share!

I really like how you said give a compliment, learn to accept a compliment, laugh and limit online time. Such great tips and so true! Love this!
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you!! These are all things that have helped me, so I hope it helps others too. 🙂
Over the past year each week I slowly started taking one small thing off the list of things to do for myself. After way too long and it got to the point things were at the point of no return. fortunately my man and I got a chance to step back. That chance was the easy opportunity to quit our job (we worked at the same restaurant). That decision seemed to be the worst thing ever, before this opportunity, because finances were tight. As soon as making a decision because it was putting ourselves first it was an instantaneous feeling that things are getting bette, even with a whole list of tasks piling up (because none can survive with no income), it was relieving. That being said my point is the things you have listed in this post are so crucial! if I would have read this even two months ago my life and my boyfriends life would have not gotten so out of control.
I have never been a blog follower due to the fact I find one post I like the, rest I don’t relate to. Every single post you do seems to hit home! I appriciate your post, keep them coming.
